Sadly there are only 3 giant flying squirrels remaining at the park. BUT the 3 are different species - Red (P.petaurista), Indian (P.philippensis) and Red and White (P.alborufus), and all share the walk-thru exhibit.
Interesting! Do you know how long the situation has been like this (with the 3 species)? On my two visits in July 2016 the only species signed was P.philippensis, but there were two each of P.philippensis and P.alborufus in the aviary (I saw two of each, and asked their keeper who confirmed that those were all of their animals).
Is this 'P.petaurista' individual, that turned out to be P.elegans, one of the P.philippensis that has been reidentified twice? Or is it a new arrival from after my visit?
@baboon Both. The squirrels did not breed well and most died of old age. It didn't help that most (if not all) the squirrels acquired were wild caught specimens that could already have been quite old.
