Aren't pygmy hippos elusive rainforest animals, while pelicans live in more open wetlands? They might live in some of the same countries, but I can't imagine they would bump into another a lot.
Apparently they can both be found in swamps, although I take your point When I visited, the Pelicans seemed to be enjoying pecking at the sleeping hippo's ears, so maybe they don't get along.
