African Elephant Exhibit

Aug. 10th, 2014.
Does anybody know if this exhibit is defunct now? Did this place stop exhibiting elephants altogether?

@DavidBrown Grant's Farm no longer keeps elephants and has publicly said they will never keep elephants ever again. I have no idea what happened to the exhibit.

Yes, Grant's Farm is 100% out of the elephant business and it was truly startling to find out that all 4 of the zoo's elephants died within the space of a year. I'm very curious as to the cause of the 4 deaths.

@snowleopard They claim they do not know. The elephants looked perfectly healthy during my visit in June 2018. I suspect it may be similar to Milwaukee's recent gorilla troubles.

The zoo has recently announced that when they open for the season tomorrow, the area made up of the former elephant exhibit will contain Domestic Water Buffalo, Emu, Bennett's Wallabies, and Red Kangaroos. I don't know whether it will be a big mixed-species exhibit or a bunch of smaller ones.

They also said that one of the elephants probably died of a brain tumor, they do not know why the other three died.
