@Pertinax I'm genuinely surprised that you'd never witnessed hippos underwater before Pairi Daiza...as there must be a dozen or more zoos in North America with the feature for Common/Nile Hippos and I'm estimating that the same number would probably apply to Europe.
Does anyone know exactly how many European zoos have underwater viewing for Common Hippos?
@snowleopard I haven't visited any European zoos for many years now- I was drawn to Paira Daiza by some of the rarities I'd never seen...there are no underwater Hippo viewing in any of UK zoos with Hippo- they should do it I think.
@snowleopard I don't know exactly how many European zoos have underwater viewing for hippos, but the first ones that come to mind are Zoo Berlin en Zoo Köln.
@AWP Off the top of my head, I can also think of Warsaw, Wroclaw, Beauval and Valencia with underwater Common Hippo viewing. Certainly it's not yet the standard.
@Maguari I can't recall seeing common hippos in Bioparc Valencia, only pygmy hippos (maybe they arrived after my visit). I remember them vaguely from Warsaw.
@snowleopard Wildlands Emmen and Praha also have underwater viewing, so that makes nine European zoos for now.
