The Rezerwat Pokazowy Żubrów (European Bison Show Reserve) is just on the edge of the village of Białowieża, and features a selection of 'wildpark' species mainly for education purposes (there were a number of school parties present on the day we visited) and to enable those tourists who don't fancy a 3hr trek from 3.30 in the morning looking for wild ones to see some bison while they're in the forest. Have to say we were expecting something rather rustic and basic but it's actually a very professional setup for the most part.
The species on show are: European Bison, 'Zubron' (European Bison x Domestic Cattle), Red Deer, Roe Deer, Moose, Wild Boar, Konik, Wolf, Lynx and Wildcat.
The bison rotate through the four brown paddocks in the centre; they were in the top-left enclosure opposite the Red Deer on the day we visited. The orange paddocks hold Zubron hybrids. Of the two smallest enclosures, the green one is for Wildcat and the red one Lynx.
