Part of the lion exhibit for 1.3 African lions. Quite nice except for the hiddeous black fencing.

Found the answer myself :) The male comes from Montpellier. They breed with a mix male and a barbary female. So the one in paris is sadly also just mix.

Meh, they are all zoomix. The last one that could had a lot of (not even all) Barbary characteristics died at BCR some years ago. All current animals labelled as Barbary are just zoomix (zootierliste lists the animals labelled as Barbary, they are for sure not pure Barbary though, not to mention ZTL is updated by zoofanatics and not always accurate).
Here, have a read: Barbary Lions

I don't see why you compare to wild horses (assuming you aim for przewalski's wild horses) because they are a pure species (as far as I know), just inbred.

Amurleopard founder male was a north chinese one, the przewalski have all domestic horses in their lines (thus the wrong colors sometimes) and barbary lions are as pure as it gets. Coming from rabat highly inbred, but almost pure. And I have read much about it and (more important) talked to the experts ;) There is a reason why barbarys are bred by major zoos and they having their little program. It is the same with przewalski horses. Better to have some not 100% pure than have none at all.

After all the international hype about Parc zoologique de Paris touted as the "zoo of the future", the impressions I got of it so far (thanks ralph for sharing the photos) let me quote Shania Twain: "That don't impress me much"...

I know it's new and stuff, but, meh...
