Siam was born in Thailand in 1945 , arrived at Circus Knie in 1956 and went to the Paris Zoo in 1964 where he lived until his death in 1997 . He sired 15 calves of which 2.1 are still living .

I wholeheartedly agree; I was fortunate enough to see "Siam" a number of times in Paris during the 1980s and 1990s. He was, without doubt, the most impressive elephant that I've ever seen.
