@Arizona Docent Yes, a brilliant photo. I spent the day with @vogelcommando and I was telling him that I'd been to 3 or 4 European zoos with Corsac Foxes but had yet to even see one. Sure enough, I saw two active Corsac Foxes at Beekse Bergen and they even share an exhibit with Small-clawed Otters and Sloth Bears. Fantastic!
@Arizona Docent Not that rare actually. Zootierliste lists 51 holders in Europe and 7 in the Netherlands (although admittedly many of those are among the smaller parks).
That said, as Snowleopard already mentioned, they are not always the best species in terms of actually showing themselves and you have to be lucky as well. Perhaps the recent heat hasn't helped in that respect.
I personally visited two places with corsac foxes this spring and saw them at both places.
@KevinB What @Arizona Docent meant was that Corsac Foxes are a rarely seen species in North American zoos. They are practically unheard of on our side of the Atlantic.
Yes I have never seen one in North America, though honestly I did not know they were that common in Europe. I have been to over a dozen major European zoos and have never seen one.
