I recently had a fabulous day at NaturZoo Rheine because I met the director (Achim Johann) before the zoo opened and he gave me a guided tour of the whole facility. Then I went around the zoo by myself and met up with Achim again later. In total I was at Rheine for almost 6 hours (shocking for me, right?) and I just wanted to point out that the zoo does not have either Black Lemurs or Mongoose Lemurs in the collection. However, the other 5 species are all on-show to the public and the Ring-tailed Lemurs (10 males) have 24-hour access to the beautiful new habitat.
I do remember seeing both the black and mongoose lemurs when I visited years ago (in the year that the lemurenwald opened). I wonder why they fazed them out.
