On my way to Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, a group of javelinas were about to cross the road so I pulled over and jumped out for photos. There were a total of 4 or 5 adults and I think 4 babies.
@DavidBrown I do not see them very often, but others do. If you live on the outskirts (especially near a wash) you will see them with somewhat regularity. However of the half dozen times I have seen them, some have been unlikely places. I saw a group of six or seven grazing contentedly right next to the rental car building at Tucson Airport. And I saw one (a loner) in the middle of the city next to a very small wash (on a short bike path that only goes for two blocks). Several years ago my cousin and I saw a few inside Grand Canyon National Park which surprised me because I did not know they could be found that far north. Recently I saw a large group grazing on the lawn at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park (near Payson) and they were quite at home and a ranger told me they essentially live there full time.
