This specific photo certainly does not show off any kind of aesthetic beauty that the brand-new elephant complex might have. An enormous grey concrete wall....shades of the Casson Pavilion at London Zoo?
@snowleopard This is just... ugly! It would be so easy to make this wall more aesthetically pleasing, either by erecting fabricated riverbanks with planters for bamboo as per Houston's design (for their bull yard) or even timber poles, joined together to create a log fence. I can think of multiple ways to improve the elephant exhibit at Oregon further (allowing tall grass to establish in the yards, planting live trees to provide further shade/context to the animals' environment, adding more fabricated mudbanks here and there, etc.). One thing's for sure, this building is eons better than the 1959 relic that they languished in for years.
