From 1930s hippo house to 2010s Desert House - one big walkthrough enclosure for half-a-dozen lizard species, three bird species, Fat Sand Rats and hundreds of dung beetles. No barriers, animal contact actively encouraged, and a complex heat and water system to provide gradients through the 1.5m of variable clay/sand mix substrate. Unusual species, beautifully and innovatively displayed in a historic building - what's not to love? Excellent and innovative new exhibit making smaller animals the stars at Nuremberg.
