New Lion Extension and Out of Africa Enclosure at Colchester, 09/09/19

The main signage for the 'new' version of Out of Africa must have been out of date almost before the exhibit was completed - rather than the implied Patas and colobus this is home to L'hoest's Guenons and Syrian Rock Hyrax.

Patas monkeys have been moved down the bottom of the zoo ppposite the cheetahs and honestly don’t know where the colobus monkeys and gone or even if they are still in the collection.

@Badgerman91 Yes, we found the Patas, labelled as sharing with more hyrax (unseen) and Barbary Macaques (not yet arrived?).

Also not sure what the status of the colobus is, but they've been dwindling for some time.

@taun Yes - it's really not very large, though useful as separation I guess.

@Maguari This where the managbys was?

So to the left of this was the original outdoor and beyond that the indoor housing?

Not been for about 8 years....not rushing back either...haha

@taun The mangabeys are still there, further off to the right (past a little picnic area) - the lion enclosure extension and 'new' Out of Africa are on the footprint of the 'old' Out of Africa, which was two narrow primate enclosures either side of a covered corridor (last time I was there they held ruffed lemurs and colobus).

Where you can see the 'welcome' sign at the left is where the entrance to the old complex was and the little corridor up the side of the lions that used to have spiny mice at the top - there's now a small interactive display there (and the stuffed lion that was previously there).

@Maguari had to go google maps, I don't remember these two enclosures but do remember seeing the colobus....which is madness

TBH its the only zoo in the uk where my GOOD sense of direction was really put to the test, the place is such maze.
