Giant Eland

pygmy killer whale (Feresa attenuata)

This young male was rescued off Cat Island, Mississippi in early September and brought to the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies in Gulfport, MS.
@DelacoursLangur They're certainly aiming for reintroduction. There is precedence as well- in 2015-16 IMMS was able to rehabilitate 2 pygmy killer whales over the course of 10 months and successfully released them on July 11, 2016!

@Giant Eland Have they tracked there survival at all? I'm all for reintroduction's if they show good survival rates. To clarify my comment above I am not opposed to all cetaceans in captivity, but the pair of false killer whales in the dolphin show isolation tanks at SDSW was pretty depressing and they have a spotty survival record not to mention an unsustainable captive population.
