Northern white-breasted hedgehog, July 2013.

This little inquisitive fellow strolled up to us in the grounds of a famous five-star Istanbul hotel.
I thought I\'d upload it since we\'re clarifying hedgehog IDs elsewhere on the forum.

Nice little shot, this - I'm really quite fond of hedgehogs. A shame no moonrat taxa are found in European collections.

I'm not currently aware of any moonrats in any public collections at all, even in their home range.

Now that I'm working on a photographic thread for the Eulipotyphla I've had a chance to check the range maps for the Northern and Southern White-breasted Hedgehog - this animal belongs to the former species, more precisely Erinaceus roumanicus drozdovskii it appears that the latter species is restricted to Anatolian Turkey, whilst populations in Thracian Turkey are Northern.
