This is the kind of exhibit that will attract a lot of criticism from zoo nerds, because there really isn't any effort to create anything with the space for the hyenas. At the bottom of the photo there are rocks and various plantings that obviously required effort to lay out...but inside the actual enclosure for the hyenas the landscape is relatively barren.
@snowleopard Not to mention the fact that we're looking down at the hyenas rather than out at the hyenas. (And the lions/painted dogs for that matter). This puts the animals in a psychologically inferior position, one which a Mr. Dennis Pate tried to avoid when it came to overseeing the development of Omaha's African Grasslands. (Particularly with *their* lions)
