This is one of the more extraordinary buildings in the zoo world. On the left is a small pool for Risso's dolphin, obviously a very unusual species. On the right are the filtering talks (you can see the rear one has a lot of crud in and the front one doesn't). They are full of chlorine and the stench is genuinely unbelievable. I don't mean the smell was bad, I mean that my throat was burning, my eyes were watering and my head was pounding. After five minutes I had to leave because I felt genuinely unwell. Obviously the dolphins must be suffering, but spare a thought for the staff member on duty as well.
Right on the ocean too, all they would have to do is run a net across part of the harbor and they would have the worlds best dolphin enclosure. Instead they have them in locked up in this dark dungeon.
