Disused Malayan Sun Bear Exhibit (2019)

This exhibit was used by Malayan sun bears, Bakti (1989-2001) and Chomel (1988-2009), from their arrival in April 1992 until their deaths. The entrance to the north dens is visible at the top right of the photo. Beyond the north dens is a maternity wing. The maternity wing (14m x 8.5m) was converted from a pre-existing bear exhibit now isolated from the main thoroughfare. It was credited with providing Chomel with essential privacy to successfully raise her cubs (which had previously died due to maternal neglect).
