World of Darkness?

I suppose the zoo just never had the drive to remove this from the sign. They also didn't have the drive to point this in the correct direction since it was pointing to a gated off section of the zoo:p

If so, I don't remember the sika being there. I visited multiple times in the 90s (granted I was young then) and never once saw sika deer outside of the monorail. Pere David's deer were definitely in the "main" zoo, and there were definitely Mongolian wild horse and guanaco in the Rare Animal Range. There was also an exhibit area that no longer exists called "Big Birds" IIRC in the late 1990s that featured the larger ratites.

Blesbok were right near the oryx.

@Anniella I could be wrong about the sika then. I remember reading about Big Birds once, but the geniuses on Wikipedia insist it didn't exist because there's no 'official' article about it, only personal references :p

It was definitely real regardless of what the geniuses on Wikipedia think. It was open year round, too, because I visited in the colder months. The rheas, ostriches, and emus were out, but the cassowary were not out, because it wasn't warm enough.
