Lucifer, Lucy, Sanda and Chiku were sharing the platform when I visited today. Chiku was grooming Sanda; and then antagonised Lucy, who moved away from her.
Sanda came into season last month for the first time since Chiku was born in February 2016. The staff are hoping she will fall pregnant soon as at 34 years, she is past the prime breeding age.
Apparently Chiku blocks Luka’s attempts to mate with her mother; just like Sule used to do with his mother, Sacha, at Taronga Zoo. Her white baby tuft allows her to get away with a lot at the moment.
