Deforestation in the maned wolves enclosure, February 2020

Last week the large shrubs and some trees around the mandrill enclosure and up towards the maned wolves were cut down. We assumed it was being done to enable anti-badger fencing to be erected, as has been happening elsewhere in the zoo. However, with these large trees in the maned wolves enclosure being felled, maybe something else is afoot?

The tall evergreen trees beside the brick-built house came down today. There are now just a few stumps between this vantage point (which backs on to the secretary bird & crowned crane aviaries) and the mandrill's house.
