@birdsandbats and @ThylacineAlive I don't think so. The red-crowned amazon, A. rhodocorytha, is a different bird.
I think the bird in Thylo's photo is a green-cheeked amazon, A. viridigenalis.

@gentle lemur In the US, the name Red-crowned Parrot or Red-crowned Amazon is usually used to refer to A. viridigenalis. "Green-cheeked Amazon" is used only in Europe. We call A. rhodocorytha the Red-browed Amazon or Red-browned Parrot. It's also possible you're mixed up. I couldn't find any reference to A. rhodocorytha being called the Red-crowned Amazon (but I didn't look very hard).

@gentle lemur the bird is indeed A. viridigenalis, which as @birdsandbats said is commonly called "Red-Crowned Amazon" in the US. I never knew the name applied to another species, but I've also never seen that other species so that's probably why. Looking at the latin specific name, I suppose "Green-Cheeked Amazon" is the more appropriate name, but due to habit I doubt I'll be changing my preference Aren't common names fun??

@birdsandbats & @ThylacineAlive I accept most of what you say, but I am using the names from Forshaw's Parrots of the World (and he's Australian ) which seems like the best idea to me. Does anyone still call A. viridigenalis the Mexican red head?
Confusion with common names is the reason I try to give the scientific name too - when I can remember to do so

@gentle lemur I don't think I've heard the name "Mexican Red-Head" used outside of Wikipedia.
