Canada goose (introduced).

@Great Argus - yes, very common; especially in the South Island, not as common in the North Island. They are generally regarded as being the subspecies maxima.
 
I just looked up the population numbers: about 60,000 of which two-thirds are in the South Island. They are culled annually to keep them under control.
