Giant Eland

possible New England cottontail (Sylvilagus transitionalis)?

Ninigret National Wildlife Refuge September 2019
If it helps, given that this photo was taken on 26 August 2019 (according to the EXIF data, although the description is given as September 2019), below is a link to a press release about the reserve and the rabbits there.

On 17 September 2019, seven captive-bred New England Cottontails were released in the Ninigret NWR. The species had been last seen there in 2005, and only Eastern Cottontails had occurred there since that year. All seven rabbits were fitted with radio collars. Another twelve rabbits were to be released "later this month" (the press release was dated 27 Sept).

So, basically, if the photo was taken in August they definitely aren't New England Cottontails, and if it was taken after the releases it still isn't a New England Cottontail because all the released animals have radio collars.
