yes they are. That is what the English call them, even though they are not marmots. Of course they aren't dogs either, so I suppose marmot is closer to accurate. I call them prairie dogs.

Yes, exactly so. I think I got it mainly from '90s zoos trying to be pedantic but it got stuck in my head. I still can't come to a settlement on which I prefer. 'PRAIRIE DOG IS WRONG' was a little too thoroughly drilled into me at a sensitive age, but of course they're not really marmots either, so it's not like it's an act of supreme accuracy.
Going back to the fifties/sixties, it was more like half a dozen, or even more I think, but I can't be sure. If they are down to 1.0 I hope they add a couple more cows again now and keep this group going with a little breeding.
