Arizona Docent

long nosed snake

Rhinocheilus lecontei, April 29, 2020, Santa Cruz River Bike Path, Tucson, Arizona.
@Great Argus When I saw it I didn't know what it was so I looked it up online when I got home. I have no idea how common they are. A relative (who is an amateur naturalist) thinks I have the id wrong and he is checking. I am also checking with a friend in Tucson Herpetological Society, but based on my initial internet search it looks like long-nosed to me.

@amur leopard I got good view the night before last. However yesterday morning and last night and this morning only saw the adults. I did, however, follow a herd of javelinas (collared peccaries) at very close range for quite a while this morning.

@amur leopard See reply on other photo. They were not at all afraid and I walked alongside them, sometimes sitting down on the edge of the path while they grazed in the brush below me. In fact one curious one (not aggressive, just curious) walked slowly towards me as I was sitting and when it finally got to within about six feet I decided it was time to stand up and back up a bit.
