@Great Argus Very noisy! They make many vocalisations including gurgles and whistles. Here is a video of what they sound like (all the calls in the background are currawongs as well):
@WhistlingKite24 The calls the main bird makes are similar to the grackle's, interestingly! I wouldn't have guessed that!
Here's a video with a bunch of grackle calls, most of the background calls during the bathing grackle part is grackles too. And they are every bit as loud as they seem!
@Great Argus That’s really interesting. When I was playing the grackle recording out loud outside, one of the currawongs in the backyard responded to it!
@WhistlingKite24 That's interesting, apparently they sound alike enough despite being from very different families! From what I know of currawongs, they fill a similar ecological niche to the grackles.
@birdsandbats Yeah, they're pretty loud and obnoxious! I've never seen Common Grackle, I'll have to look up their calls and see!
Fun fact, 20 years ago grackles actually had only been recorded a couple times in my area. Only within the last ten years has the species actually become regular. It was last year we finally managed to confirm breeding, and they are present almost year round now.
