Constructed as part of the 1968 125th anniversary jubilee complex, a very small terrace housing the African lion sat at this location until 2011. Then this exhibit temporarily filled up the space until the renovation and overhaul that is due to start this fall.

This was also the enclosure that housed the giant panda's in 1987. After the lions moved to their new enclosure, it first housed bat-eared foxes and yellow mongooses for a year or maybe two.

@Jarne
1987 was before my time but I have seen the pictures and I knew that giant pandas had also occupied the terrace for six months.

I seem to have forgotten about the bat-eared foxes and the yellow mongoose in this exhibit - if they were only in here briefly I may not have seen the exhibit in that form often. I do remember bat-eared foxes living in one of the exhibits by the old pig house for a relatively short time.

The yellow mongoose have been in the old small deer exhibit near the Egyptian temple for the last few years.

It was indeed only very short, but I do remember seeing them. In 2012 the zoo received bat eared foxes, and in 2013 the new group of raccoons arrived. That leaves a gap of a couple of months up to a bit longer than a year. If I remember correctly the bat-eared foxes were harassed by the mongoose, which was one of the reasons to discontinue the mix.
