That tree-line offers up a fantastic backdrop to this exhibit and it is remarkable how outdated many polar bear enclosures are when they are compared to grassy yards like the habitat in this photo. More and more zoos are building modern, naturalistic bear exhibits that aren't cement grottoes and it is a delight to see the progress taken with polar bears all around the world.
This is indeed a nice trend and many many new polar bear exhibits have been created since Ouwehands dierenpark (NL) started this trend of polar bear exhibits.
Allthough the idea is not properly executed in every zoo imo, as these enclosure could have been bigger and a bit better structured. Seeing the space available, the enclosures are already on the small side when they were opened... All in all I was a bit disappointed by this enclosure.
