After some introspection, the mock tree really isn't that distracting (though it is oddly shaped and still doesn't really fit the Himalayan foothills motif) and the rockwork/caves seem to be realistic enough. The retaining wall that has the caves, was that part of the old grotto system the zoo had?
@Wyman Hopefully you see this version, I just edited this message with a completely different answer. Upon further research looking at old photo, a small portion could've been left behind from the white tiger grotto.
