The chimpanzee exhibit underwent a refurbishment in 2018, with a new viewing window and the addition of these large hammocks. The keepers often throw food into the hammocks during the food throw overs to encourage the chimps to use them. The rocks is still the preferred spot for sunbathing.
Wellington Zoo currently have 4.6 Common chimpanzee - which includes two adolescents and one juvenile. They’re hoping to breed from Sally, who is currently off contraception.
