This exhibit was originally a pit built in 1922 to house Brown bear. It was later converted into a holding pit for Polar bear, while their adjacent exhibit was being cleaned. For the last couple of decades, it’s housed Nepalese red panda.

This exhibit has been recently removed from the map and I feared it’d been demolished to make way for the South East Asian precinct; like the adjacent meerkat exhibit (an old Black bear pit) was in 2018. Luckily for me, it’s just been fenced off and I was able to get a couple of photos. Hey, it’s not my fault I’m tall enough to see over the fence.

There’s three Nepalese red pandas in this exhibit (which is divided in two):

0.1 Bo (born at Melbourne Zoo 10/12/2009) Imported 2012
1.0 Tashi (born at Auckland Zoo 01/12/2018) Ramesh x Khela

0.1 Mohini (born at Auckland Zoo 14/01/2016) Sagar x Bo
