@Arizona Docent The background was naturally dark. There is a night/winter shelter in the enclosure that was open. With picking the right angle and with enough light you can underexpose a little and have the inside of the shelter black as background.
@Onychorhynchus coronatus That is not exactly known. There have been imports from the early 1960's to early 1970's. The animals imported were adults. From which import Mr. James was is not known, but if he would be from the last import he will be at least 50 years old. And if he is from an earlier import he could be well over 60 years of age. Flamingo's in general are hardy birds, and ages above 50 are not unique.
