This was the early plan for the zoo and its trail system. The zoo initially was supposed to connect all of its African mammal exhibits, as shown in this plan, yet paused implementation of this.
From what I know the zoo has been planning to redevelop the left side of this picture. This includes exhibits for giraffe (large new barn), rhino, zebra, and hippo, among other species. Elephants were not included in the requests for proposal though. No information has been released publicly on this process in a few years as well.
