There are 2 zoos in La Habana: this one el Jardin (JZH) and PZN - Parque Zoologico Nacional - the green park safari style zoo. The ratel was a recent acquisition, possibly the Namibia connection?
Yes the ratels at the Havana city zoo are from Namibia. I liked the old Havana city zoo much more than the newer zoologico nacional were the bus rides were too rushed.
@carlos55 Totally agree, I always assumed science education would be a big thing in Cuba and maybe it is but it is definitely lacking in their National zoo
@Onychorhynchus coronatus, it could well need some more publicity. I wish it was more widely available internationally what they do with local and exotic wildlife.
There has been a nice study on the past work with white rhino breeding.
@Kifaru Bwana I haven't really heard much about what they do in terms of wildlife or conservation apart from their involvement with breeding Crocodylus rhombifer.
