definitely a terrible exhibit, well a better expresion would be cage, but atleast it seems as if they are trying to provide shade for the animals with these green tarpaulins.
@Paul Kalisch
Yes, very bad at all, and these green fabric pieces don't help too much. The exhibit is so abandoned that there are a handfull of shoes and flip flops over these tarpaulins, because there's a cable car that passes right above this cage, and some people seem to have left their shoes fall acidentaly. This zoo is a total mess...
@Onychorhynchus coronatus
Indeed, it is
And we both know the brazilian northeast is extremely hot, so the only lion in this exhibit rarely leaves his handling area. Even being hot weather animals, they need shade, and besides that, I think the lion is suffering with a very stereotyped behaviour, wich made him more used to the inside area...
@David Matos Mendes I think that unfortunately there are some serious socio-economic problems in the North-East so life is difficult enough for people let alone animals in zoos. Honestly, I believe that this zoo really needs to be closed or redeveloped (very unlikely though).
@Onychorhynchus coronatus
Yes, unfortunately... and I don't see a way to recover Aracaju zoo, once besides all the problems it already has, it is located in a very violent part of the city. Some food vendors there told me not to use my phone very often, because there were many robers around there, and some months after I left Aracaju, a body was found inside the zoo... probably a victim of drug trafic.
