@Onychorhynchus coronatus Agreed, though from what I've heard EAZA has decided to drop their Asian songbird initiative... Thankfully individual zoos are still pushing forward with establishing reliable ex-situ populations.
@Onychorhynchus coronatus Can't say I know, but I think it's frustrating that they did. If only the AZA would pick up such an initiative and stop focusing on only the Bali Myna and White-Rumped Shama.
@Onychorhynchus coronatus Yes it does but they have to be one of the most common birds in captivity across at least three continents at this point. Some space can be made for other birds. I'd personally love to recommend the Straw-Headed Bulbul or Nias Hill Myna.
@ThylacineAlive True, they are kept by a lot of zoos and definitely those other critically endangered species you mention could benefit from ex-situ. From a quick search online I found that there is a plan to build a conservation breeding centre for the Nias Hill myna at the Nias Heritage Museum.
@Onychorhynchus coronatus I believe the museum already has one or two rescued mynas, and I do wish them the best of luck with the program as a whole, though surely more institutions will be needed to make it successful. I believe Jurong has already been breeding the bulbul as have private keepers.
