Naturalis - Five original Darwin finches

In the temporary exhibition "Van onschatbare waarde".
These finches were collected by Charles Darwin on the Galápagos Islands in 1835. After his return the finched were kept in the collection of the Zoological Society in London. 22 finched were later transferred to the Natural History Museum and five came to the Netherlands.

On the photo three specimen of the Small Ground Finch (Geospiza fuliginosa) and of both the Vegetarian (Platyspiza crassirostris) and Common Cactus Finch (Geospiza scandens).
