Very sad... We had good zoos in Brazil that had to bring lions from europe, while they could have been brought from many bad places inside the country... I bet it's something related to the sellfish toughts some zoo managers have... These guys could have way better lives.
Prefeitura confirma morte no Bosque do leão Lineu
Líneu the male lion in this photograph has just pássed away. Maybe now the zoo can close this exhibit, though the lioness is still there. The rest of the zoo has mostly rescued or confíscated brazilian animals And is Adequate for them
@carlos55 Well, BH zoo brought a lion from Dortmund to reproduce, but they just lost it's lioness, so it would be nice if the crew in Campinas sent this female to there. Would be good for both institutions, and, mainly, for conservation, although there are still many sellfish toughts in brazilian zoos that remain from the old times, where the amount of species in the zoo was the big deal at all.
@carlos55 If i'm not wrong, lions can reproduce at a quite advanced age... don't know how old this one is at all... Anyway, looks like this zoo is going to be closed gradualy in the next years. Good news for the animals that will be still alive until it's permanently closed, so they will be transfered to better places (hopefully)
