@Onychorhynchus coronatus For what I've read a few days ago, blond capuchins were considered extinct since the 1700's. Then a group of these guys was taken from the traffic in 2006, wich made the species reapear from the ashes, and then they were sent to SP. I just don't know if the zoo sent any of them to another institution during this period, cause I know they reproduced, and maybe their exhibit got crowded or something.
@David Matos Mendes I know a bit about them being considered extinct and them being a rare example of a primate "lazarus species" but unfortunately I have no idea about whether they are kept by any other institution except SP Zoo.
I really think they could do with much more ex-situ conservation work to be honest and it would be amazing to see this species or indeed the buffy headed capuchin or the Kaapori capuchin at a zoo like Jersey Zoo in the UK.
@Onychorhynchus coronatus Yeah, it's always good to have as musch conservation programs possible. Our zoos could definitely increase the relations with international institutions... Would be awesome for both sides....
