Kakapo 24 Aug 2018 Nice critter! It's an ant in the genus Myrmecia, commonly called "bulldong ants". Unfortunately the specific ID is impossible by photos, as usual in insects.

Yoshistar888 10 Nov 2020 @Kakapo Nope, it is possible to ID most species at least to subgenus level. This one is a Giant Red Bullant (Myrmecia gulosa), note the large size, red colouration and partially black tip on the abdomen.
