Quite a nice Australian arid landscape, but very few, if any, of the birds kept here are from the arid regions of Australia. It worked better when it housed budgerigars, cockatiels and other parrots.
What species does it house now? It is quite understated by Pairi Daiza standards.

@PAT According to signage Rainbow lorikeet, Australian king parrot, Galah, Australian crested pigeon, Bush thick-knee, Straw-necked ibis, Eclectus parrot, White-faced heron and Crimson rosella.

The Crested pigeons, Galahs, King parrots and Eclectus I saw neither last year nor this year.

Perhaps this aviary isn't quite as spectacular and over the top as some of the other exhibits at Pairi Daiza, it is still a pretty nice representation of arid Australia.

Unfortunately very few of the species kept here are native to arid regions of Australia. Hence why I liked this aviary more when it housed budgerigars, cockatiels and other species that are actually from more arid regions of Australia - and would prefer it to house such species and to see the species from wetter habitats moved to different aviaries, perhaps.

Galah, Australian crested pigeon and Bush thick-knee do occur in the Red Center, but the others are indeed inhabitans of the coastal forests and wetlands.

I liked this aviary, maybe *because* isn't over the top.

@KevinB Thanks for the reply. This would have been great with budgerigars, galahs etc.

And I should've elaborated regarding saying that it's understated. I think it looks very nice, almost refreshing after the heavy theming seen elsewhere around this zoo.

No more crowned pigeons in there? Those were really weird to see in this aviary on the red soil.

@Jarne I did not see any in there and they were not signed. I think they now have all of their crowned pigeons in the Oasis. I saw half a dozen crowned pigeons in the Oasis. Admittedly the Oasis is still more arid habitats and dry forest than true rainforest, but still better suited for the pigeons than this aviary.
