Dragons!-Quince monitor exhibit

@Moebelle That something is the standard doesn't mean it's not depressing. In Europe there are certainly monitor exhibits that are relatively larger compared to the animal in there. An exhibit this small doesn't provide a choice in hiding spots, basking spots, a temperature gradient, room to move, .... For an animal that's quite dependent on it's environment it's even more important to give a range of options then for let's say a mammal.

Some example of what I would tend to call more decent non-komodo monitor habitats:

Australian mixed terrarium: Frill-necked lizard, Spiny-tailed monitor and Major skink, 2020-05-24 - ZooChat
(The enclosures is as deep as it is wide, with several spots to hide)

Second part Water monitor Enclosure - ZooChat
(This enclosures goes at least as far back as it is wide)

Emerald Tree Monitor Exhibit at Blue Planet Aquarium - 05/10/2013 - ZooChat
(A bit less water would be nice, but at least lot of climbing possibilities in the back)

Jun. 2014 - Aquatic and Reptile Center - Black Tree Monitor Exhibit - ZooChat
(Your own photo right? Sizewise seems decent, but the furnishing doesn't make full use of the available space so not that decent actually).
