Eared Quetzal- Euptilotis neoxenus

Taken near Portal, Arizona in October.
A large trogon found in northwest mexico. Perched in a hunchback pose here. I have always enjoyed this species call, super distinct. A very elusive specialty of Mexican mountains, and only found in small areas of the United states. This species is more related to the Quetzals of the Neotropics. This species feeding technique is most delightful, selecting and picking thoughtfully which food choice it will pick. The eggs of this species are pale blue.

Marvelous!
