There were noticeable problems, but the exhibit was absolutely enormous. There, they shared the enclosure with a single marabou stork (probably the only specimen kept in Brazil), two water buffalo and three hippos. So, I'd rate a 7,75/10.
@Enzo This mix is what bothers a bit, for having asian critters mixed with african... But I bet it's pretty big indeed. Also, I didn't know there were any marabou storks in Brazil...
During the 1960's, there were some being kept at the Rio de Janeiro zoo. The mix doesn't bother me that much, as they live together in harmony.
Note: the rhinos aren't kept with them. Their exhibits might look like they're the same one, but they're different.
@Enzo I've seen in CITES trade that 12 marabous were brought to Brazil between 1990 and 1996. I didn't know they were also present in Rio's collection.
I don't mean the mix bothers me for animal welfare, but for geografical discompasion. Not actually criticizing the enclosure, once it seems pretty nice at all. It's also good that the rhinos are kept separately.
@Enzo Great! I bet the marabous were located in some kind of lake with herons and ibises, for what I've seen. The images are really nice for a video from the 60's.
