@ashley-h: To underline the difference between the current state of the snowleopard husbandry at the Tierpark Berlin, and the state it could be. The Tierpark certainly has the potential to create a similar exhibit, but doesn't.
Zurich's is terrific, probably the best I've seen. In the US the Bronx and Binder Park have great snow leopard exhibits, and from all indications Central Park will join them when they open their new (2-enclosure) exhibit late this year.
The pic isn't in the wrongs ection, I've posted in here, to give the members the oppurtunity to compare a good snow leopard exhibt , which was build in the same time as the snowleopard cage at the Berlin Tierpark. So I did the same, what Blaskiewitz is doing at his Tierpark, giving the people the chane to compare...( in this case animals....)
I don't know Zurich, but the snow leopard exhibit at Lüneburger Heide might be a nice exhibit, but it ins't better than Rostock. And I don't talk from the look of the exhibit.
The problem with the Tierpark is only one person, Blaskiewitz, the right person, I will not name someone here, would do a much better zoo out of the Tierpark than Blaskiewitz is doing. He's not using his chance to create a great zoo with with so many great possibillities. He could have an elepahnt exhibit from the size of 5 or 10 hectares, but he hasn't....But it is absolutly necessary to keep both species of elephants, and both in not very good and too small exhibits...
I think a lot of people could think of many ways to improve both zoos, and it wouldn't take a genius to see his ideas are outdated. But, many of the exhibits a fine (e.g.- Lions, tigers, new chimp enclosure), so he's not doing a terrible job.
The animal park is not keeping chimpanzees, I think, you mean the ZOO Berlin ? And the tiger and lion exhibits at the Tierpark are indeed outdated, but at the Zoo, they have good exhibits for the lions and indo chinese tigers. At the Tierpark, Sumatran and Indochinese have to share in change the small, old and rocky outdoor exhibit...
He's not doing a terrible Job ? So please aks the animal keepers, a lot of keepeprs has left the park, a few months later after Blaskiewitz had become the director of the Animal Park, guess, why.Blaskiewitz isn't a friend of animal keepers, he think, they are easy people, **** shovelers....And he isnt a friend of human tretament of animal keepers...I bet, he wishes back the slavery....This is well known in germany, since a keeper told a lot of horrible stories to a newspaper...
