New Gibbon Exhibits

December 6, 2020.
The new exhibits hold pileated gibbons, siamang and yellow-cheeked gibbons, replacing an old row of primate cages. Together with the old enclosures of northern white-cheeked gibbons and skywalker hoolock gibbon, they now form a gibbon-themed plaza, which makes Shanghai Zoo one of the few places in the world where one can literally hear all four genus of gibbons singing at the same time.

Shanghai zoo continues to surprise me with the quality of their newer exhibits(especially for a chinese zoo). The newer chinese wetlands, south china tiger & leopard cat exhibits, and nw this one. Of corse its not perfect, the monkey house looks terrible and the bear pits are also bad (if they’re still around), but over all, shanghai zoo may possibly be the best zoo china has to offer.

@Dhole dude The bear pits are probably the next to go, depending on which of the three announced new projects the zoo would pursue first. Currently the baboon-macaque row is the last remnant of old primate area. As Shanghai is getting rid of its worst parts one by one in recent years hopefully we don't have to wait for too long.
