Excellent Refurbishment

The previously see-thru exhibit of the Amazon flooded forest looks 10x better with the addition of fine sand, alongside epiphytic bromeliads attached to partially-submerged driftwood.

Great to see some green in the otherwise very drab Amazon Flooded Forest building. Nice to see stingrays back in the tank as well (i think they were the ones from the demolished pond at the Zoo's rainforest courtyard).

Talking about refurbishments, I noticed that the old Mississippi River terrariums have been replaced with a single much larger display window. Any idea what will be displayed there?

@Zooish Yes, the 2 hybrid rays were previously from the courtyard pond at the zoo’s entrance.

I had to pass thru the Mississippi zone quickly as it was incredibly crowded by the time of my arrival. The terrarium and cabin are likely still under the charge of Herpetology, so I’ll inquire with an acquaintance.

Would be cool if it turned out to be an enclosure for Cottonmouths, which used to be exhibited in the zoo’s old reptile house.

@Zooish Hi, apologies for the delay. My acquaintance got back to me, and revealed that the cabin has changed hands, & is now managed by the river safari's Aquatics dept.

Haven't been back in awhile, so I'm unsure if the exhibit has since been occupied. But I suspect the species in focus is most probably either a small, North American shoaling fish or possibly a fully-aquatic amphibian like a siren or amphiuma.
