@Mr Gharial It is certainly one of the weirdest zoo exhibits that I have seen, and even at Pairi Daiza it stands out as pretty unique (which is saying something for Pairi Daiza). That said, it is a good way to make use of this piece of old architecture for sure.
What the picture cannot convey, however, is that this crypt smells pretty bad (as one I'm sure could imagine) and that the bats sometimes fly somewhat disconcertingly close to visitors. In September I had one of the bats swoop right past me, after which I quickly continued on to the other parts of the crypt (treasure cave, mole rats and amphibian room).
