wild - Little Red Flying Foxes (Pteropus scapulatus)

This zoo is currently the home to 100s of wild Little Red Flying Foxes that roost on their grounds. They seem to be long term residents as they were there during my 2018 visit but have since increased significantly in numbers. They add a nice animal bonus to the zoo visit.

Were you there at the same time of year in 2018? Little Reds are migratory but often return to the same camps each year.

@WhistlingKite24 Yes the Little Reds feed on nectar and pollen, so they move south in the summer (from tropical north and west Queensland) to follow the flowering eucalypts and other trees. They are only in Brisbane roughly between October and April - easy way to remember that is "Christmas to Easter". Then they head back north to have their babies.
